À propos de Miquel
I am Miquel Casanova, born in Lliçà d'Amunt - Spain, and I am a double bass player currently living in Basel, Switzerland. My musical training began at the age of five, initially as a violinist at the Conservatori de Granollers, where I studied classical music. At 12, I developed an interest in improvisation and jazz, which led me to explore modern music. At 15, I discovered my true passion for the double bass and decided to dedicate myself fully to the instrument. I completed my classical training at the IEA Oriol Martorell school (Barcelona), where the double bass became my main instrument, and continued my studies at ESMUC (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya), graduating in jazz performance under the guidance of Horacio Fumero and Mario Rossy. Afterward, I completed a Master’s degree in Performance at the Jazzcampus of the Basel Academy of Music, where I studied with Bänz Oester and Larry Grenadier, and I am currently continuing my artistic development there with an Ergänzungsstudium.
I have performed on numerous stages across Europe with bands such as the Sant Andreu Jazz Band and the BAO (Barcelona Art Orchestra), sharing the stage with renowned jazz musicians such as Chris Cheek, Joe Magnarelli, Perico Sambeat, and Dick Oatts.
