À propos de Genevieve
Hello, my name is Genevieve and I am from New Zealand.
I am a lawyer and professional freelance saxophonist.
I have been playing the saxophone for ten years in New Zealand and recently moved to Brussels for an experience of living in Europe and pursuing my interest in saxophone performance.
My motivation in teaching is to help a student learn the fundamental technique of saxophone performance so they can develop their own creativity, voice and passion on the saxophone. My hope is to start a student on a lifelong journey exploring music as art in all its different manifestations, whether performance, composition, etc.
I have specialised in classical/contemporary saxophone, however I am still a student myself pursuing learning jazz. I am open to all types of musical styles and will adapt my teaching and lessons to what you as a student are interested in. I have a passion for improvising and unleashing a student's own creativity.
I am happy to teach beginners without any musical theory or saxophone experience. I teach Alto saxophone, Tenor saxophone and Soprano saxophone. Unfortunately I only can teach in English (I am just a new student in learning French!)
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Saxophone Performance (classical/contemporary) from Otago University (NZ)
Postgraduate Diploma of Saxophone Performance (classical/contemporary) from Victoria University (NZ)
DipABRSM in saxophone performance (Diploma Royal Schools of Music)
LRSM in saxophone performance (Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music)
I also have a Bachelor of Law from Otago University (NZ)
TEACHING AVAILABILITY:
- Brussels region at your house (I can travel to you)
- Online, via webcam lessons
A student must have their own saxophone :)
Check that you have - a mouthpiece, a few reeds, ligature, harness and cleaning cloths.

EXPERIENCE:
I have five years experience of teaching children and adults saxophone technique from beginner, intermediate and to advanced level students.
I have performed in numerous chamber music ensembles in New Zealand such as 'Saxcess' the NZ Saxophone Quartet, 'Duo Eolienne' (harp & sax duo), 'SMP Ensemble' (new New Zealand music), 'Trade Winds' (flute and saxophone duo) and 'Duett Isetta' (piano & saxophone).
I have performed two saxophone concertos with orchestras, Glazunov's Op 109 with the Nelson Symphony Orchestra and Milhaud's Scaramouche with the Dunedin Wind Orchestra.
I have performed in Masterclasses in New Zealand and Australia for Nikita Zimin, Niels Bijl, Joseph Lallo, Michael Duke and Jay Barnes.
